> For the complete documentation index, see [llms.txt](https://help.gleantap.com/llms.txt). Markdown versions of documentation pages are available by appending `.md` to page URLs; this page is available as [Markdown](https://help.gleantap.com/audience/creating-segments/static-vs-dynamic.md).

# Static vs Dynamic

**Static:** Once Saved, the segment will stay the same unless manually edited. This means that once you save an audience it will not auto-update.

**Dynamic:** Once Saved, the segment will continue to update in order to meet the parameters of the segment. All automations must use Dynamic segments in order to work properly.

For example: If you set up a segment of users who visited in the last 7 days, each day people who visited 8 days ago will leave the segment and people who visited 1 day ago will enter the segment.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter:

```
GET https://help.gleantap.com/audience/creating-segments/static-vs-dynamic.md?ask=<question>
```

The question should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
