# Use Gleantap with AI Assistants

Connect Claude, ChatGPT, and other AI assistants to your Gleantap account. Ask questions about your contacts, build segments, draft messages, and check results in plain English.

You can connect your Gleantap account to AI assistants like **Claude** and **ChatGPT**. Once it's connected, you can ask the assistant about your contacts, campaigns, and pipeline in plain English, and it can do work in Gleantap for you:

* *"How many new leads came in this week, and how many have booked a class?"*
* *"Build a segment of members whose membership expires in the next 14 days."*
* *"Draft a friendly SMS inviting lapsed members back for a free class. Don't send it yet."*
* *"How did last Tuesday's newsletter do compared to the one before?"*
* *"Summarize my open inbox conversations and tell me who needs a reply first."*
* *"Move Jane Doe to Trial Booked in the Leads pipeline and create a follow-up task for tomorrow."*

The assistant uses your real Gleantap data, so its answers are based on your account, not guesses.

{% hint style="info" %}
**What you need:** a Gleantap login and an account with an AI assistant that supports connectors (paid Claude and ChatGPT plans do). No code and no API keys are needed.
{% endhint %}

## Connect your assistant

{% tabs %}
{% tab title="Claude" %}
Works on [claude.ai](https://claude.ai) and in the Claude desktop app.

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### Add Gleantap as a connector

In Claude, open **Settings → Connectors** and click **Add custom connector**. Enter:

* **Name:** `Gleantap`
* **URL:** `https://mcp.gleantap.com/mcp`

Click **Add**.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Sign in to Gleantap

Click **Connect**. A Gleantap sign-in window opens. Log in, choose which **workrooms** Claude can see, review the permissions, and click **Allow**.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Start asking

In a new chat, open the tools menu (the **+** or sliders icon in the message box) and make sure **Gleantap** is turned on. Then try: *"List my Gleantap workrooms."*
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

{% hint style="info" %}
**Claude Team or Enterprise?** Your organization's owner may need to add the connector first under **Admin settings → Connectors**. You then connect your own Gleantap login from **Settings → Connectors**.
{% endhint %}
{% endtab %}

{% tab title="ChatGPT" %}
ChatGPT connects to Gleantap through **Developer mode**. It's available on paid plans. On Business, Enterprise, and Edu workspaces, an admin may need to enable it.

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### Turn on Developer mode

In ChatGPT, open **Settings → Apps & Connectors → Advanced settings** and turn on **Developer mode**.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Add Gleantap

Back in **Apps & Connectors**, click **Create** and enter:

* **Name:** `Gleantap`
* **MCP server URL:** `https://mcp.gleantap.com/mcp`
* **Authentication:** `OAuth`

Confirm and click **Create**.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Sign in to Gleantap

Log in when prompted, choose which **workrooms** to share, and approve access.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Start asking

In a new chat, open the **+** menu, choose **Developer mode**, and enable **Gleantap**. Then try: *"List my Gleantap workrooms."*
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

{% hint style="warning" %}
ChatGPT renames these menus often. If you can't find them, search ChatGPT's help center for "Developer mode" or "custom connectors."
{% endhint %}
{% endtab %}

{% tab title="Other AI tools" %}
Gleantap works with any AI tool that supports **MCP** (Model Context Protocol), including Cursor, VS Code (Copilot), Claude Code, Windsurf, Gemini CLI, and OpenAI Codex. In most of them you add this server URL and sign in:

```
https://mcp.gleantap.com/mcp
```

Step-by-step instructions for each tool, plus API-key setup for scripts and automations, are in the developer guide: [**Connect AI Tools (MCP)**](https://developers.gleantap.com/connect-ai-tools-mcp).
{% endtab %}
{% endtabs %}

## What the assistant can do

| Area | Things you can ask for |
| ------------------------ | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Contacts** | Find someone, update their details, add a note, opt them in or out of SMS/email, merge duplicates |
| **Segments** | Build a segment from a description, preview who's in it, count members |
| **Messages** | Draft and preview email/SMS templates, send yourself a test, schedule a campaign |
| **Results** | Campaign and flow performance, message delivery, conversions, scorecards |
| **Inbox** | Read and summarize conversations, draft replies, assign, tag, close |
| **Pipeline & tasks** | Move leads between stages, create and complete follow-up tasks |
| **Appointments** | See, book, reschedule, or cancel appointments |
| **Flows, forms & pages** | Review and build automations, forms, and landing pages |

## Staying in control

The assistant works with your **real account**. There is no practice mode. A few built-in safeguards, and a few habits, keep you in control:

* **You choose what it can see.** When you sign in, you pick which workrooms to share. If you have several locations, share just one while you get comfortable.
* **It asks before changing things.** Claude and ChatGPT show you each action and ask for approval before anything is created, changed, sent, or deleted. Read these prompts carefully.
* **Some actions can't be undone.** Sending a message or campaign, publishing a flow, deleting, and merging contacts are permanent. Approve these only when you're sure.
* **Preview first.** Ask *"show me who's in this segment before saving"* or *"send a test to me first."*
* **Don't use "always allow"** for actions that send messages or delete data.

{% hint style="warning" %}
AI assistants can misunderstand a request. Before you approve a send, double-check the audience and the message.
{% endhint %}

## Disconnect

Remove Gleantap from your assistant at any time:

* **Claude:** Settings → Connectors → Gleantap → **Disconnect**
* **ChatGPT:** Settings → Apps & Connectors → Gleantap → **Delete**

The assistant immediately loses access to your Gleantap account.

## Troubleshooting

| Problem                                                 | What to do                                                                                                       |
| ------------------------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Gleantap doesn't appear in my chat | Turn it on for the current chat: the tools menu in Claude, or **+ → Developer mode** in ChatGPT. |
| "Not found" for a contact I know exists | That contact's workroom probably wasn't shared. Disconnect, reconnect, and select the workroom when you sign in. |
| It says it doesn't have permission | You may have declined a permission at sign-in. Disconnect and reconnect, then approve the permissions it needs. |
| I can't find "Add custom connector" or "Developer mode" | Your plan or workspace admin may not allow custom connectors. Check with your admin. |
| The sign-in window never opens | Allow pop-ups for claude.ai or chatgpt.com, then try **Connect** again. |

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://help.gleantap.com/use-gleantap-with-ai-assistants.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
